Attached above is a screenshot of feedback from my final evaluation at my last Level II Fieldwork at Lebonheur Children's Hospital. I put a lot of effort to connect with my clients and their families while at Lebonheur and I truly feel as if this made my interventions and treatment sessions with them more efficient and valuable. When first meeting the children that I was going to treat, I made sure to always introduce myself to the caregivers and let them know why I was there and ask their permission if I could work with their child. Every caregiver I came into contact with was more than happy to let me work with their child and increase my skill set of pediatric occupational therapy. I truly believe that if an entry-level practitioner connects and creates a therapeutic relationship with their clients and their families, then the occupational therapy process will go much more smoothly and the client will see benefits from the treatment sessions much quicker. Not only on my pediatric rotation did I give it my all to create a therapeutic relationship with my clients and their families, but on my other two rotations I did this as well. On my first rotation at Methodist North Hospital, I had a patient thank me for being so personable and creating a relationship with her. She stated that no one else in the hospital had taken the time out to just talk with her and get to know her except for me. I thought this was such a great compliment and it just motivated me to continue being personable with all of my patients and their families, even if sometimes they did not show how much they appreciate it.
