Attached above is evidence for this competency taken from my final fieldwork evaluation at Lebonheur Children's Hospital. I always strive to have a positive attitude, even when faced with a hard situation. I made sure to make this quality that I possess shine throughout all three of my fieldwork rotations. I believe that an entry-level practitioner should be positive and a cheerleader for his or her patients and colleagues. Occupational therapists are pivotal team members who acquire qualities that other professions do not, making them so important to the rest of the team as well as their patients that they treat. Throughout fieldwork, I had the opportunity to co-treat with physical therapists and speech therapists. At the beginning of each rotation, I found it very challenging to co-treat with other professionals because of the balance between two professionals working with one patient. However, as I was able to practice this and advocate for occupational therapy, it became almost like second nature to co-treat. For example, at Lebonheur I would always co-treat for one child with a speech therapist who had been working there for 10 years. At first, it was very hard for me to advocate for occupational therapy and make the treatments more occupation-based, however as time went on, I became much more confident and was able to advocate for our profession in the treatments that I presented the patient with. Throughout the 12 weeks, the speech therapist was a constant cheerleader for me and so I always tried to inspire confidence in her throughout our sessions as well. Because of this, I feel as if our treatment sessions went very smoothly. I was also able to see some wonderful progress from this patient throughout my time at Lebonheur and I am so happy that I was able to work together with a speech therapist to help this patient reach his goals.
