Click above on the file to see a screenshot of my evidence. On my second Level II Fieldwork rotation, I was placed at Park Center Emerging Adult Program in Nashville, TN. I believe that this comment from my supervisor on my final FWPE shows evidence that I possess this competency skill. On this rotation, each week I led an OT group for the clients that attended this facility. I always led groups on topics that motivated and challenged the clients, such as budgeting groups, teamwork building groups, and relaxation groups. Even when I was not leading groups and just hanging out with the members, I always asked them what they were interested in doing in their free time and I assisted them with that. For example, if they wanted to play a certain game or work on their resume, I would always be available to assist them. One member in particular had been looking for a job for a long time and was starting to lose hope. I assisted her in applying for multiple jobs, in which she received an interview for one and she was ecstatic. I then accompanied her in taking the bus since she had never used a bus system before, finding her way to the facility, and interviewing for the job. I think that tapping into a client's motivation is definitely a huge skill that an entry-level OT should possess because if you do not consider the client's motivation when intervention planning, then the client may not fully participate in the activity, therefore not gaining progress in therapy.
