Attached above is a comment from my final evaluation on my first Level II experience at Methodist North Hospital. My rotation was split, with 6 weeks spent in adult outpatient and 6 weeks spent in adult acute care. This comment was made by my fieldwork educator in the acute care setting. After the first initial weeks with my educator, she felt as if I could be independent and let me choose my patients and treat them independently. I felt as if this was a honor and a compliment towards me. Those next weeks following, I was entering my patients room alone and my educator was only there outside of the door if I needed her. She completely trusted me and believed in me. This gave me a lot of confidence in this area, and I had a blast treating my patients alone and forming relationships with them and their families. I believe that an entry-level practitioner should feel comfortable enough to be independent in the setting they are placed in, but they should also feel confident in any setting they are put in and should be ready for any challenge that they are faced with. An entry-level practitioner should be able to problem solve independently in the setting they are in and be effective in their evaluations/treatments.
