It is extremely important for an entry-level occupational therapist to use what is around them in an innovative way that their clients could benefit from. Using different and creative ideas can keep clients focused and motivated throughout a treatment session. In my evidence above, I created a "swiffer" type of object, using a golf club, a foam piece, and duct tape, in order for one of my clients to play shuffleboard on the floor. I used duct tape to create the shuffleboard on the tile floor, with different point values for each level. My client that I created this intervention for was working on standing balance and reaching in order to increase her participation in household chores. She had experienced a stroke and was in outpatient therapy at Methodist North Hospital. She was very motivated by games that were challenging and competitive so I decided to create this game for her so that she could work on the skills she needed to as well as be motivated to participate. I used the materials that were around the therapy gym; therefore, I did not have to go out and spend money on objects that were needed for this activity. If I had not used what was there to create this game, she may have not been as motivated to participate and work on the skills that she needed to.
