It is extremely important that an entry-level occupational therapy practitioner empower others around them so that the work environment is a positive one. This competency also plays into the therapeutic relationship that one can have with clients and staff within the work environment. I found that this is one of the most important competencies to have because it truly connects you with others. Others start to trust you and count on you to believe in them. On my second rotation at Park Center, I made sure to constantly talk with the members and encourage them in what they were working on. All of the members were diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis and most of them had not had the easiest life, so it was important that I was there to be someone that they could talk to about anything. My evidence that is attached above is from my final evaluation at Park Center. There is a quote in this evidence from one of the members talking about how I talked to them like adults. I feel as if I empowered these individuals to be the best that they can be and as an entry-level occupational therapist, I think this is one of the best things that you can do with your clients.
